Call of Duty – Black Ops
Heed the ‘Call of Duty’ again this year in this seventh installment in the Call of Duty series. This time it’s back to Treyarch to prove themselves and it looks like they’ll be delivering a gem of a game with Black Ops. Instead of building on Infinity Ward’s masterly Call of Duty 2 and staying true to the World War II setting, they now go completely their own way and implement their own innovations. This makes Black Ops probably the most innovative and refreshing Call of Duty experience since Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare.
Crossbows and Dragon’s Breath
Call of Duty – Black Ops puts the player behind enemy lines during arguably the most perilous period in recent history. An epic single player campaign filled with adrenaline-pumping action lets you experience the Cold War as various members of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam – Studies & Operations Group). These elite special forces units specialize in covert warfare and the conclusion of explosive conflicts around the world. If captured, their government would deny any involvement.
Your mission is not to push back the local Viet Cong, but to expose the Russian involvement and thwart their plans. For example, you will have to work secretly in various missions and silence enemies with eg. your knife or a crossbow. But you can also attach explosives to your crossbow to introduce your enemy to a world of pain once all hell breaks loose.
As a MACV-SOG member, you also get access to a variety of experimental weapons, such as the SPAS-12 shotgun with incendiary ammunition, better known as “Dragon’s Breath”. Of course there will be vehicle sections again in Black Ops. For example, you will not only have to provide air support to your ground unit with an SR-71 Blackbird, but you will also be responsible for getting the colossus into the air from an aircraft carrier. You will also have a helicopter under your control and not just as a gunner as the helicopter moves along a predetermined path. You will be able to control it completely yourself!
